The University of Connecticut is known for their great success in their basketball programs. The Men's Basketball team has won numerous championships, and the Women's basketball team is always the best team in College Basketball. This year was led by guard Paige Bueckers, but this game was led by all, as they defeated the number two seed, Villanova- 70-40 Monday Night.

Tonight was the Big East Championship and all of the UConn players came to play. Evina Westbrook put up 13 points for the Huskies, and Aaliyah Edwards added 12 of her own. This is UConn’s 20th Big East tournament championship win, and even without Paige Bueckers, Olivia Nelson-Ododa, and Caroline Ducharme due to injury (whom are key parts of the team’s success), Coach Geno Auriemma held a strong game plan which concluded in the Huskies to wipe the floor with Villanova.

Auriemma said this after the championship win, “We never lost sight of who we are and what we are trying to do. Some days it was really bleak. Some days you go to practice and we have five able bodies… We knew when these players come back we’ll be whole again.`` Although the Huskies had dealt with multiple, unfortunate injuries with their star players, they were still able to come together and run away with the Big East Championship Monday.

Also, UConn Huskies athlete Christyn Williams who was awarded the tournaments “Most Outstanding Player”, said this after the team win, “This team, man, we’ve been through so much this year and we fought through everything and I’m super proud of them all, We stuck together and never gave up and we’ll continue to fight.” In the history of College Sports, the UConn Huskies Women’s Basketball team has always shown to have grit and determination to win day in and day out. UConn, being the former number 6 ranked team in NCAA Women's Basketball this season, is now the number one seed as the highly anticipated March Madness tournament is soon to come, with a record of 25-5.

For the Villanova Wildcats, conference player of the year, Maddy Siegrist led the way with a great scoring effort of 16 points. Villanova is going into the March Madness tournament as the number two seed after this loss. Villanova, after tonight, really needs to change things up if they want to win the National Championship this year.

Moreover, when UConn gets their stars back, such as Paige Bueckers, then, the Huskies should definitely be the favorite for winning it all in the month of March. My early Women’s Basketball March Madness tournament winner is Geno Aureiemma’s UConn Huskies.
