The 2021-22 NFL season has come to the end and it had a crazy ending. Super Bowl 56 happened yesterday night between the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals.
It was a contest of penalties in the final 5 minutes of this matchup. With Logan Wilson getting called for a holding call on Cooper Kupp on 3rd and goal which really decided the fate of this Super Bowl.
Before I detail the last couple minutes, I’ll start with the first few. It started off with the Bengals winning the coin toss and calling to defer and to give it to the Rams first. On the first drive it was all Odell Beckham-Jr. Notching 3 catches and a great touchdown reception. Then with the Bengals first pocession , at first it was looking bad. But Burrow throws it deep to JaMarr Chase deep on the run. It was a highlight of a catch. He was able to beat Ramsey by a second and was able to get a one handed reception to ≈7 yard line. But the Rams defense earned vengeance as they only gave up a field goal for the great Evan McPherson.
Then for the next LA pocession, the undisputed best wide receiver Cooper Kupp was able to catch a great throw by Matt Stafford for a Rams touchdown to make the score 13-3. Let’s speak about that extra point. All-pro punter Johnny Hekker who is a longtime Rams punter and holder, slips the hold and attempts to throw it but it was intercepted. Moving on to the next plays, everyone was fooled by the Bengals trick play they executed in the red zone. It was a toss to running back Joe Mixon. The defense read run but instead of running the football, Mixon throws a dime to Tee Huggins for a Bengals score and made the score 13-10. The only other highlight that happened before half was the great interception by Jessie Bates in the end zone to avoid a two score game by the Rams going into the second half.
Before I give a rundown of the second half of the Super Bowl, I will speak about the halftime show. The NFL wanted to attempt a classic hip hop show. I really enjoyed watching and there was nothing but positivity being talked about it around social media.
To go onto the second half it started off with a touchback and Bengals ball. First play was a heave down the field to a one on one, Tee Higgins and Jalen Ramsey, and Higgins was able to catch it and ran it in for a 75 yard touchdown. There was controversy going around about a face mask that should have been called on Higgins. In doing this it gave Higgins separation for the touchdown. Then right after when the Rams had pocession Matthew Stafford threw an interception to Awuzie giving the Bengals a field goal to make it a 20-13 game.
A lot of scoreless processions went on with both teams but later on Matt Gay was able to score a field goal to make it a 20-16 game. This was the score for the rest of the third quarter and up and till the final two minutes. The final Rams pocession was insane. It really looked like the Bengals had them locked down on a 3rd and goal on the Rams ten. But when the referee pulled out the yellow flag, the Bengals were doomed. The flag was called on Logan Wilson (the middle linebacker for the Bengals) and it put the Rams at the 1 and a first down. Then when the Bengals got the ball back with <1:30 left to go in the fourth, Aaron Donald was able to get the last word with a sack on Joe Burrow.
Cooper Kupp won the Super Bowl MVP and everyone is happy for this Rams organization as they will get their hard earned ring. As for the Bengals, they are set in stone as my early pick for next years Super Bowl champions if they can sign and draft star offensive lineman to give Joe Burrow more time in the pocket.
