What a great show of athletisicm and shooting the 2022 NBA All-star game between Team LeBron and Team Durant last night. With the dunk contest being very underwhelming, the main event was able to carry all-star weekend back to its expectations.
As regards to the skill challenge, it was much different then how it usually is. In this event, it had three teams. The teams were, “The Cavaliers”, displaying the home town team’s top players with all-stars- Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen, as well as, rookie phenom Evan Mobley. Another team was, the Antetokounmpo’s, where the three brothers of the family, including former MVP Giannis, competed for the crown. The final team was the rookies. In this squad, there was triple double king, Josh Giddey out of Oklahoma City, rising stars MVP and the first overall pick with Cade Cunningham of the Pistons, and the great Scottie Barnes out of Toronto. I was incorrect in my pick for the winner as, home field advantage really paid off as the Cleveland Cavaliers stood victorious in this years Taco Bell Skills Challenge.
The next event was the 3 point contest. I thought I was going to get this pick correct in selecting Trae Young as the winner. But with a record breaking, 29 point final round, the center out of Minnesota, Karl Anthony-Towns wins it all.
Although, these two events were very exciting to watch, the dunk contest sadly was not. On social media, there are many posts about Shaquille O’neil’s face of boredom watching this years dunk contest. Shaq, who is known for having the big camera back when Vince Carter put on a show, was very underwhelmed by this display of athleticism in the dunk contest. But, New York Knicks forward, Obi Toppin won it all.
But now lets speak about the main event of this weekend, the all star game. This has been a highly anticipated game, with no one really knowing who will win. It was a close game the whole time. As after three quarters of play, it was only a one point game. For the final quarter the target score was set at 163. This being because, the highest score between the two in addition of 24 points (Kobe Bryant) is done to find out the target number to get. Through back and forth three pointers and dunks, captain LeBron James got the final say as he hits a fadeaway jump shot with two guys on him to win the game in his former city. But let’s speak upon the Most Valuable Player in this game, Stephen Curry. Curry had 50 points with 17 shots made from the field and 16 of them being from behind the arc and from the logo. Watching Curry hit multiple deep threes in back to back pocessions, it made people wonder if he is human.
During halftime, due to the NBA’s 75th year anniversary, there was a ceremony for the 75 best players to ever play the game. This emotional ceremony had everyone grinning from ear to ear seeing all of the greats together again.
This game goes down as one of the best all-star games to ever go on in the NBA’s 75 seasons. They have also announced the 2023 all-star game location in Utah. So everyone cannot wait for that.
